We will not have Sunday School today. Sunday School resumes on January 8th. | 26St. Stephen, Deacon and MartyrSt. Stephen, Deacon and MartyrThe life of St. Stephen is commemorated on this day. St. Stephen was one of the first ordained Christian deacons of the church in Jerusalem, and was known for his service to the poor and his status as the first Christian martyr. He was stoned to death in 36 AD.
St. Stephen is often depicted with stones, a Gospel Book, a miniature church and a martyr’s palm frond. He is the patron saint of Altar Servers, bricklayers, casket makers and deacons.

He played a leading role in the early church at Jerusalem.
St. John and his brother St. James were among the first disciples called by Jesus. In the Gospel According to Mark he is always mentioned after James and was his younger brother.
St. John is mainly identified as the patron saint of love, loyalty, friendships, and authors.

Also known as the Feast of the Holy Innocents, the day refers to King Herod’s order found in Matthew’s account of the king’s reaction to the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecy. These children are considered martyrs, Saints of God, by the Church.
