12St. Barnabas, Apostle (transferred)St. Barnabas, Apostle (transferred)This is the feast day celebrating St. Barnabas, the apostle and missionary who was among Christ’s earliest followers. He was responsible for welcoming St. Paul into the Church. He was not one of the 12 apostles chosen by Jesus, but he is traditionally regarded as one of the 72 disciples of Christ and the most respected man in the first century Church after the apostles themselves. He is the patron saint of Cyprus, Antioch, and against hailstorms, and he is invoked as a peacemaker. 13 14 15

24Nativity of St. John the BaptistNativity of St. John the BaptistThis feast day celebrates the birth of St. John the Baptist, who was a prophet who foretold the coming of the Messiah in the person of Jesus, whom he later baptised. It was the firm belief among the early faithful that John was freed from original sin at the moment when his mother met the Blessed Virgin (Luke 1, 45). Saint Augustine mentioned this belief as a general tradition in the ancient Church. In any case, it is certain that he was ‘filled with the Holy Spirit even from his mother’s womb’ (Luke 1, 15) and, therefore, born without original sin. St. John the Baptist is patron of tailors (because he made his own garments in the desert), of shepherds (because he spoke of the ‘Lamb of God’), and of masons. He is the patron saint of authors, evangelists, lay people, musicians, and many others. St. Peter was the Apostle Jesus chose to lead his Church after he returned to his Father in heaven). He is the patron saint of fishermen, bakers, masons, Rome, and many others. These two saints were so important to the growth of our Church that we honor them with a joint feast day on June 29th.
